Muslim pro wrestler Mustafa Ali, who most notably works for TNA but is also the reigning Oceania Pro Wrestling heavyweight champion and Qatar Pro Wrestling world champion, took to Instagram recently to share diet and training tips during Ramadan.
“I have been competing and training while fasting for the month of Ramadan for about 20 years,” wrote the 38-year-old Ali, who held the TNA X-Division title last year, and prior to joining the promotion worked seven years in WWE. His tips included:
- “When breaking your fast in the evening, avoid binging. Easier said than done, but stuffing a bunch of food all at once is going to make you feel bloated. Instead, limit your food to one plate.”
- “Have a protein shake before Taraweeh (night prayers). Have another protein shake when you’re back home from prayers.
- “Training while fasting is such a wild card. It all really depends on what type of training you are doing. At the moment, I am working with lighter weights and higher reps so I am able to workout while fasting. If I am doing heavy lifting or intense cardio, I will train after Taraweeh prayers so I am able to refuel immediately.”
- “Above all else, it truly is mind over matter. Training while fasting requires greater discipline. The struggle you face at the moment is nothing compared to the days of hunger many face all over the world. Get your mind right. Get your body right. Ramadan Mubarak.”
